Finnish Designs

In the Finnish Contraflow fireplace, the smoke travels first upward, then downward through side downdraft channels before entering the chimney.  Sometimes we construct heated benches for additional heat exchange.

Our typical Finnish fireplace includes a secondary combustion chamber which also serves as a bakeoven.

We commonly build rectangular, hexagonal, and pentagonal versions.  Other configurations are possible, including round.  Design possibilities are virtually limitless.  Many of our projects involve joint efforts with Maine Wood Heat Company, Inc., pioneer builders of the Finnish fireplace in the United States, using their patented Albiecore system.
